A YouTuber, Jake Moscato, decided to take on the trending carnivore diet for 60 days, focusing exclusively on red meat. His goal? To improve his health and get into better shape. What followed was an intense physical and mental journey, which he documented on his YouTube channel.

The Carnivore Diet: What Is It?

The carnivore diet involves consuming only animal products, typically focusing on meat and animal fats, and excludes plant-based foods entirely. Popularized for its supposed health benefits, it’s a diet that encourages weight loss and enhanced mental clarity. Moscato, intrigued by the diet’s potential, was determined to see what would happen to his body after going red meat-only for two months.

The Struggles: Adjusting to a Strict Diet

At first, the challenge wasn’t easy. Moscato admitted that he had underestimated the difficulty of the carnivore diet. “I was so sick of meat,” he shared in his video, explaining how the constant consumption led to feelings of mild depression and anxiety. His initial commitment was challenged during a vacation to California, where his carnivore-friendly food options were limited, and he struggled to stay on track.

However, after returning to New York, he realized he was too strict with himself. “I was way too strict,” Moscato said, noting that he had initially planned to follow the lion diet, which is even stricter—consisting of only red meat and salt. He loosened the rules slightly, incorporating a small amount of fruits, eggs, and pork, which helped him stick to the challenge.

The Physical Transformation

As the weeks went by, Moscato noticed positive changes. On day 23, he observed a shift in his mindset, with red meat starting to smell “delicious.” By the end of the 60-day challenge, his body had undergone a remarkable transformation. His muscle mass increased by six pounds, and his body fat dropped from 16% to 14.6%. He also lost six pounds in body weight, feeling “pretty shredded” by the end of it.

Health Results: A Positive Shift

Moscato’s blood work after the challenge showed significant improvements. His testosterone levels rose from 748 to 800, and his insulin levels were notably low. Iron levels also doubled, which he considered a major positive change. His doctor’s results confirmed the success of the diet, showing overall improvements in his health.

A Mixed Journey

Moscato’s 60-day red meat-only challenge highlights both the difficulties and potential benefits of the carnivore diet. While it was a challenging journey, the physical and health improvements he experienced offer intriguing insights into the impact of such a restrictive diet. However, it’s important to remember that this diet isn’t for everyone, and individuals considering it should consult with healthcare professionals before making any drastic dietary changes.
